BLACKWISE IS SIMPLIFYING BLACK-OWNED

We developed Blackwise’s custom web search with the aim of simplifying the discovery of Black-owned businesses. Like many of you, we initially considered beginning with a directory. However, have you ever counted how many directories are dedicated to Black-owned businesses? Frankly, neither have we, but we are well aware that the quantity is substantial.

Given the overwhelming abundance of options, we found ourselves grappling with a sense of being inundated rather than empowered. After experimenting with well-known search engines like Google and Bing, consulting articles, blogs, chamber of commerce listings, and various directories focused on Black-owned businesses, we arrived at a realization: individuals wishing to support the Black-owned movement required a targeted and consolidated search mechanism. Instead of having you scour the entire expanse of the World Wide Web, sifting through websites and lists one by one, Blackwise amalgamates a myriad of resources into a single search engine.

Our search engine encompasses a wide array of resources from individually contributed websites to carefully curated upscale marketplaces (kudos to Black Owned Everything!). It also includes methodically organized lists centered around popular themes such as hotels, hair care, and restaurants—think NABHOOD; sentimental directories focusing solely on businesses within a beloved city (a nod to the “A”); and, not to be overshadowed, even listings for places like Lafayette, Indiana. Yes, we see you, Star City.

Think of it as a compact Google devoted exclusively to all things Black-owned. The uncertainty of “are they Black-owned” is eliminated through this comprehensive Black-owned search. So yes, indeed, it is Black-owned.

And now, the most exciting part—it comes at no cost. All we ask is that after using Blackwise, you help spread the word and share your thoughts with us. If your search yields no results, it might just indicate an unexplored gap and an opportunity within our community (hmmm, potential future blog topic?).
